We had a great time today with Adrie, Jon and Susie coming out for the day. We played cards (13) and the kids enjoyed the hot tub. We made a great dinner and talked and talked through the day.
I just loved it.
We finished up the island this weekend, other than getting electricity to it. Here’s how it looked this morning. The butcher block hadn’t been oiled yet. But we’re already enjoying using it.
Our Amish neighbors are using the newest technology for sap gathering this year, then draining the sap into an old milk pail. The trees all along Walton Road are tapped this way.
These cranes were in the meadow this morning. A sure sign spring will be here soon. There are actually 3 birds in this picture. Each is sleeping on one leg.
We made the decision not to put an island in our kitchen when it was remodeled in 03. Over time it became obvious that the kitchen would work better if we had one. I priced new cabinets, etc. but wanted to see if we could find something cheaper and a little different. The plan was to find something to use as a base and put a large butcher block top on it.
In January I found this buffet on Ebay. And I had the top bid of $83.00! This picture was taken the day it arrived at our house. Rob had to pick it up at a shipping company in Grand Rapids. After it arrived we ordered a cherry 60×36 butcher block top. That is being delivered tomorrow. I have new pulls to match the ones on our cabinets and we’ve turned it around so the drawers face the sink. The rug is gone. This weekend we’ll get the top on. I’ll post more pictures then.
